Expert Sun Damage Assessment & Repair
Understanding the extent of UV damage is the first step toward restoration. We use advanced diagnostic tools to identify pigmentation, texture changes, and vascular irregularities, creating a scientific roadmap for your skin's recovery and future protection.

Sun exposure is the single biggest external factor in how our skin ages. The clinical term for this is photo ageing – the cumulative damage caused by UV rays over time. You might notice signs of photo ageing as uneven skin tone, dullness, or a loss of firmness and elasticity, especially in areas that are regularly exposed to the elements. Age and sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles, thinning and sagging skin are all part of this process, as collagen in the skin gradually reduces. Different UV rays affect different layers of the skin. UVB rays are shorter and mainly impact the epidermis (the top layer), gradually thinning it. UVA rays are longer and reach the dermis, where they damage collagen and elastin, leading to visible signs of ageing. They can also affect the tiny blood vessels in this deeper layer. Pigmentation changes, such as age spots, often appear on the face, hands and arms after years of sun exposure. Wrinkles and sagging can also develop earlier than expected due to UV damage. As the skin thins with age and UVB exposure, dryness and itchiness can become more common. At Cheltenham Skin Clinic, we focus on identifying the specific pattern of sun damage in your skin so we can recommend targeted, evidence-based treatments to restore clarity, firmness and long-term skin health.
